Tabby confession: I once ghosted someone. We didn't call it ghosting back in the day, we called it "ignoring phone calls or emails", but I did it. Listening to a guy you're on a date with talk about how his ex-girlfriend was a model is boring, and how he thought a second date was a possiblity I will never understand. No regrets. What I do regret is not knowing about ghost layers sooner.
To be fair, ghost layers are relatively new, having only been created by Ramon Gàrcia back in 2018, but it seems their popularity is really starting to take off. So just what are ghost layers and why do we need them? Read on...
What are ghost layers?
Ghost layers are the lengths of layers you do not see. They're layers that are cut shorter and are hidden by longer layers. The idea behind it being that the shorter layers add movement, texture and lightness to the hair (great during those hot summer days), while the longer layers ensure you still have lengthy hair.
Who suits them?
It's a look that anyone can rock. If you've fine or thin hair, it'll help create the illusion of thick hair, if you've thick hair, it can help reduce heaviness. Best of all, it's a super subtle cut, perfect for those of us who don't want to turn heads or have people screaming "oh my god, I love your new do" whenever we walk into a room.
What should I ask for?
If you find yourself sitting in the hairdresser's chair and receiving a blank look when asking for ghost layers, then try asking for invisible or internal layers. If that's not working and you're getting a blank stare, get this YouTube clip ready on your phone. And if you're not confident your hairstylist can do it, maybe it's time to ghost them...

I am so shy on this I feel like its a look you can end up with anyway if you have damage hair from bleach for example and hair has broken off it almost looks like a mullet hair cut to me but on Jennifer Aniston in friends and many others
